Prof. Shaw-Jenq Tsai

Shaw-Jenq (Sean) Tsai, PhD, is the President of the National Chung Cheng University (CCU) and the Chair Professor of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, College of Science, National Chung Cheng University. He is an Academy Fellow, International Union of Physiological Sciences, Ambassador of the World Endometriosis Society, and a Fellow of the Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine

Professor Shaw-Jenq (Sean) Tsai received his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, in 1997. He then joined the Department of Physiology at the National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, as an Assistant Professor in 1998. He was promoted to Distinguished Professor in 2008 and Chair Professor in 2019 in recognition of his academic achievements. Professor Tsai also served as the Director-General of the Department of Life Sciences, Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, from 2014 to 2017. He is the co-founder and past President of the Asian Society of Endometriosis and Adenomyosis.

Professor Tsai’s research investigates molecular mechanisms underlying important human diseases, including cancer, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and endometriosis. He has published over 150 book chapters and papers in prestigious journals such as Nature, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cancer Research, Nucleic Acids Research, and PNAS. His papers had been cited more than 9450 times with an H-index of 56 as of April 2024. He is the recipient of Distinguished Research Awards presented by the National Science Council and the Ministry of Science and Technology. He is also the 65th Academia Award winner presented by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan.

Professor Tsai is one of the World’s top 2% scientists. He was awarded the “2014 Distinguished Scientist” by the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, “Most-cited article published in 2017 Cancer Research” by the American Association for Cancer Research, and “2021 Fuller W. Bazer SSR International Scientist Award” by the Society for the Study of Reproduction. In 2022, Professor Tsai was elected to the Academy of the International Union of Physiological Sciences as a fellow. Professor Tsai is currently the senior editor of the Journal of Endocrinology, the Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, the Asian Editor of Experimental Biology and Medicine, and the Chief Editor of the Journal of Physiological Investigation.
