Professor Montgomery is an Emeritus Professor at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, and Scientific Co-Chair of the NECST Clinical and Scientific Steering Committee. He has a strong track record in the genetics and genomics of complex disease and has published influential papers across a range of disciplines in the life sciences and medicine including papers in New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Science and Nature Genetics. He was a founding member of the International Endometriosis Genetics Consortium mapping genetic factors explaining variation in risk for endometriosis. More recently his group has used the extensive genetic data now available in international databases to understand the complex relationships between endometriosis and associated comorbid conditions. His group also studies genetic control of gene expression and epigenetic signals in endometrium and has developed cell-based models for functional studies to identify genes and pathways contributing endometriosis risk.
